Introduction

Having received financial support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association has established a three-year (2014-2017) “Intergenerational Responsible Citizenship Project”, which comprises activities related to qualities of responsible citizens. Through this project, we hope to enhance cross-generational collaboration and communication. Golden Guides, for example, are encouraged to share traditional skills and handicrafts with the guides, whereas younger members can introduce technological skills to the elder ones.

The project includes:

  • Larged-scale events like Sharing Day and Culture Day

  • Intergenerational interest classes

  • Workshops

  • Overnight camps

  • Service opportunities

  • Training and sharing for guiders

  • This Responsible Citizenship Badge.

All guiding sections can attempt the Responsible Citizenship Badge according to their respective assessment syllabi. May all guides acquire a deeper understanding of the attributes of a responsible citizen while fulfilling the assessment requirements, and become better guides after accomplishing the set of challenges!

Assessment procedures

How to wear the badges

How long can I wear the badges?

The assessment outline of the "Intergenerational Responsible Citizenship Badge" is divided into "Individual", "Family" and "Community", each with different items for guide members to fulfill. To cater for different sections of the guiding community, the assessment items differ.

Guiding members can attempt the various items in the outline on their own, or guiders can assist their members in fulfilling the requirements during their regular meetings, with the aid of the teaching kit.

  • Happy Bees can sew their cloth badges onto their right sleeve.

  • Brownies and Guides can sew their cloth badges onto the back of their sash.

  • Rangers, Golden Guides and Guiders can wear their metal badges on their right chest.

All "Intergenerational Responsible Citizenship Badges" can be worn until 31st December, 2020.
